Those who suffer from celiac disease have a condition where the small intestine cannot tolerate gluten and the gluten starts to injure the lining of the small intestine. Having Celiac disease is one of the main reasons for a Gluten Free diet although it has become more popular in recent years for the perceived health benefits of following this type of diet.

Oats On a Gluten Free Diet

Oats have been a questionable item for Celiacs and the gluten intolerant since the creation of the Celiac disease diet. Oats themselves, as a grain, do not contain the gluten protein. This makes oats gluten free! Unfortunately, at least until just very recently, oats came with an extremely high level of cross contamination and were not allowed on the gluten free diet.
